Is Building a Marketing Engine Really Too Much Work?
If you have ever thought to yourself, it meant building a marketing engine just sounds like way too much work before I even see any result. If you have thought this, you are not alone. There are so many B2B business owners that I talk to that feel the exact same way because marketing has burned them before, and it feels like they're starting from scratch every time. In this episode, I'm going to show you why building a marketing engine is actually the fastest way to get results and how you can see quick wins right out of the gate.
Hi, I am Tim Fitzpatrick with Rialto Marketing, where we believe marketing shouldn't be difficult, and it definitely shouldn't be guesswork. Thank you so much for taking the time to tune in. Let's just jump right into it.
The Problem with Chasing Quick Fixes
What is the problem with chasing quick fixes? I see this all the time. People are constantly chasing quick fixes. What is that one thing? What's the easy button in marketing that's just going to revolutionize my efforts and make everything else obsolete? That doesn't exist. So many of the people that I talk to are stuck in the marketing maze. They're going down one path. This week, that didn't work. So they turn around and they try to go and do another path. When you are stuck in the marketing maze, it is just this maze of disconnected, varied tactics. There's wasted time with no clear results. And I get it. It is super frustrating, right? You're pouring money into marketing campaigns that aren't working. You're feeling overwhelmed by too many choices that are out there. There's all these marketing things you could be doing, but you're not sure which ones actually make the most sense for you, which leaves you just second-guessing every single move you make. When you're just chasing quick fixes, what you're doing is just picking random parts without actually having clarity on why you're picking those parts and how you're actually going to assemble those parts into an engine so that they work together, not in silos by themselves. That's what's happening, and that's the problem with chasing quick fixes. It just doesn't work. So there has to be a better way. There has to be a better approach to this. And there is. It's to build a marketing engine, right?

Why Does a Marketing Engine Get You Faster Results?
So why does a marketing engine actually get you faster results? A lot of people think it's going to take too much time, and it's wasting time. In reality, taking the time to build a marketing engine gets you faster results. How? How does that work? Well, first off, when we build an engine, it's not that we're taking the approach of, Hey, we're going to build an engine, and you have to wait six months to see results. That's not the case at all. There are always quick wins that we can identify and work on as part of the engine building process, which can help amplify to amplify what's already working. So there are always quick wins. So even while you're building an engine, you are focused on quick wins that can help boost the results of what's already working for you. But the other thing that we're doing when we take the time to build an engine is we stop spending time on marketing channels and tactics that aren't working. There is an immediate cost savings and efficiency boost from doing that. In the beginning, when we're building the engine, we're identifying quick wins. At the same time, we're looking at what you should stop doing. Both of those have immediate results. But then there's this long term payoff, because once you have a system in place, once you've built that marketing engine, you stop starting over. Because when people don't have an engine and they just go down a path and start taking action, what happens is they do things for 90 days or six months, and then they're like, Well, this didn't work. And they're having to go back to the drawing board and start over each and every time. Once you've taken the time to build the engine, you don't have to do that. Every new tactic that you choose to use, plugs into the engine instead of just being another disconnected experiment. That's why you can actually get faster results when you take the time to build a marketing engine.
What Building an Engine Actually Look Like in Practice
Okay, Tim. Great. I get it. What does building an engine actually look like in practice? Let me break it down. So first thing that is really important to understand, there are three key components to building a marketing engine: strategy, planning, and leadership. Those are the three core components that need to be in alignment.
Strategy is your fuel for the engine. We need to get clear on who your ideal clients are, what you're going to say to them, how do you message them, and how you position your company as being different in the market. Why should they choose you over everybody else? That's what we're doing when we put strategy in place, and that is the fuel for the engine. Then with planning, you are picking parts and assembling the engine. You are choosing the right marketing channels, prioritizing activities within those channels, and building the engine. You're assembling the engine with those parts.
And then leadership is the mechanic. You have to have somebody that keeps that engine running smoothly and optimizing that engine. So in leadership, we're measuring the results. We're making sure that things are getting implemented and executed appropriately, and we are optimizing. We're making adjustments and course corrections along the way. All three of these components have got to be in place and in alignment. Almost every prospect I speak with doesn't know what to do next. They're doing activity, but nothing is working, right? And they don't know why. That's why you need to come back and build an engine. When you take the time to build the engine, you'll have clarity on what you need to do next and why you need to do it.
Reframing Your Perspective
Now, most people at this point say, Okay, well, this is great, but I don't have the time or the budget or the patience to do this. If you're going to be successful with your marketing long term and get consistent repeatable results to help you actually grow your business, you got to reframe that perspective because the real waste here is in repeating tactics that just don't work. Staying stuck in the marketing maze is what you don't have time for. A system building an engine saves time and money in the long run. So what I would encourage you to start thinking is reframing that from, I don't have the time, budget, or patience to do this is to think, Man, I have to make the time, budget, and have the patience to do this because I don't have any other option if I want marketing to work for my business and help me grow. Taking the time to build your engine step by step is worth the time. It is not an overnight process, but you can employ quick wins, and you can identify what you should stop doing up front from day one. So there's immediate returns up front while you're taking the time to build that engine.
Conclusion
So I hope you found this helpful, right? It is a perspective shift that is really important. Building a marketing engine is not extra work. It's smarter work. It's going to reduce waste, creates clarity, and gets you compounding results. If you are tired of feeling stuck in this marketing maze, building your engine is the way out.
